The Vatican Museums are the largest in the world and, truth be told, no one really knows what lies in their deeper echelons. Rumours that the Ark of the Covenant, the Holy Grail and more reside in these hidden chambers help to make this the most mysterious place on Earth!

You can, but it's not recommended. For a start you'll have to queue for hours (even our standard, non-exclusive Vatican Tours allow you to skip the line), but more importantly you'd be lost in a jungle of hundreds of thousands of artefacts, many of which will be meaningless to you without a guide.
