Höhepunkte
The Round Room
We enter Round Room early on in our exclusive Vatican Off-Limits Tour while other tour groups pass straight on. This magnificent space features an enormous and priceless red porphyry basin and statues from the time of the Emperor Hadrian, near the beginning of Christianity.
The Bramante Staircase
The mesmerizing double helix-shaped Bramante Staircase was carved directly out of stone and is considered an architectural wonder of its time. Originally leading up to the private papal chambers, the staircase is large enough to accommodate mules and other forms of transport!
The Pine Cone Courtyard
The Pine Cone Courtyard is one of the most distinctive features in the outside space of the Vatican City, located near the northern entrance to the museums and chapel. This peaceful grassy verge is known for the 13-foot pine cone statue that stood in the center of Pagan Rome.
The Niccoline Chapel
The Niccoline Chapel is one of the lesser-known areas of the Vatican and also one of the oldest, containing frescoes dating back to the late quattrocento. The space is dedicated to St Lawrence and St Stephen, two of the earliest ever martyrs to the Christian cause.
Gallery of the Maps
While the Gallery of the Maps is featured on most Vatican Tours, it is an element that gets less attention than it deserves and for fans of cartography, provides a bewildering perspective of 16th century Italy, when the peninsula was divided into powerful seafaring merchant republics.
Q&A
Why can't I get this tour with other companies?
Enjoy Rome is one of the oldest and most respected tour operators in Italy and as such we have a special, long-standing relationship with the Vatican (and the city of Rome for that matter). It's fair to say we're not the only ones, but we're one of a privileged few that are able to offer such experiences.
What's so special about Vatican off-limit areas?
Some of the best parts of the Vatican Museums are off limits. The Hall of the Muses—to mention but one example—is a little-known yet incredible and thought-provoking sight to behold. And that's only the beginning!
Why are the Vatican Museums so special?
The Vatican Museums are the largest in the world and, truth be told, no one really knows what lies in their deeper echelons. Rumours that the Ark of the Covenant, the Holy Grail and more reside in these hidden chambers help to make this the most mysterious place on Earth!
Can I visit the Vatican Museums without a tour guide?
You can, but it's not recommended. For a start you'll have to queue for hours (even our standard, non-exclusive Vatican Tours allow you to skip the line), but more importantly you'd be lost in a jungle of hundreds of thousands of artefacts, many of which will be meaningless to you without a guide.
