A Must-See Tour of Rome - Trastevere and the Jewish Ghetto

SHARE
This must-see sightseeing tour of Rome guides you through the charming, historic neighborhoods of Trastevere and the Jewish Ghetto - two of the best places to visit in Rome.

Our journey begins in the center at Largo di Torre Argentina as we enter the ghetto, visiting its most famous attractions with an external visit to the synagogue. Next on this Rome itinerary is Trastevere – the famous artistic quarter and home to the beautiful church of Santa Maria.

This unique walking tour ends in Campo de’ Fiori – a square loved by locals and filled with street artists, live music and bustling cafés. The perfect way to see the undiscovered – and very best of Rome.

itinerary

  1. The sightseeing tour of Rome begins in the heart of the historic center at Largo di Torre Argentina - the spot where Julius Caesar was famously assassinated. We enter the ghetto via the picturesque Piazza Mattei, stopping at the beautiful Fontana delle Tartarughe to admire its three different kinds of colored marble and learning of its romantic past. We immerse ourselves in the history of one of the most ancient Jewish quarters in the world, as the tales of its inhabitants, interwoven with those of Roman citizens are still written on the walls of the neighborhood.
  2. Our route takes us past the synagogue (one of the largest in Europe) as we cross over Tiber Island enjoying fantastic views of Rome’s many bridges, before finally arriving in Trastevere. The most popular, bohemian quarter of the historic center (where you can find the beautiful church of Santa Maria) is occupied by artists, authors and lovers of Roman night life.
  3. After some wandering and people-watching, we cross back over the Tiber via the Ponte Sisto, passing by the Piazza Farnese Palace and finally arriving at Campo de’ Fiori. This small square - loved by locals and filled with street artists, bustling cafes and live music is the perfect ending to this charming tour.

Jewish Ghetto & Trastevere
A real eye opener! I never realised the history of this part of Rome's past. Janette, apologies if I've misspelt, really knows her stuff and made the whole tour really entertaining.

Great Tour with competent tour guide
We were lucky to book the tour. Jeannette did a great job in mixing history teaching with every day stories of real Italian life. Tour was very interesting with a good mixture of old and modern Rome

Fantastic tour!
This tour was fantastic. The history of the Jewish Ghetto was really interesting and something you wouldn't learn about otherwise as the area today is quite expensive! It was also great to walk around Trastavere and other parts of Rome and have various things pointed out and explained. Our guide (Inger) was the best guide I had in Rome. She was so enthusiastic about everything and answered all questions really well. This was one of my favourite things in Rome and well worth the money!
